BUDAPEST, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The identity of a nation and a civilization is mostly reflected by and centered on culture, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said here on Tuesday during the inauguration of the National Museum Restoration and Storage Centre.

"We are proud of Europe's Greek, Roman, Jewish and Christian heritage and also proud of the contributions Hungarians have made over the past one thousand years to that culture," Orban said.

"When we see that culture endangered, a red light flashes in our mind and we take immediate action," he said. "Hungarians cannot become an ethnic or cultural minority in their own cities, because whenever they feel their cultural identity being challenged, and alarm sets off."

The new Restoration and Storage Centre is the biggest museum-related development in Hungary in recent decades, Orban said. It will help preserve over one million cultural artifacts, while the building itself makes Budapest even more beautiful, more modern and green, according to Orban.

The new centre is part of the so-called Liget Project, a huge museum complex being built in and around Budapest's City Park. It will house the collections of the Museum of Ethnography, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the National Gallery.
