KHARTOUM, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's Transitional Military Council (TMC) has invited the major opposition forces for a meeting set for Sunday to discuss arrangements of transitional period and formation of a civilian government, the opposition announced Saturday.

"We have received a call from the TMC to resume the negotiations," said the major opposition Freedom and Change Alliance in a statement.

"We have informed them that the old approach is not consistent with the demands of the Sudanese people in salvation and in reaching the goals of the revolution as quick as possible," noted the statement.

The alliance set a period of 72 hours to reach a deal with the TMC on the outstanding points, including the formation of a joint sovereignty council, the duration of the transitional period, and affiliation of the military bodies, it added.

The alliance said it has determined the points of difference, noting that those points would conclusively be discussed with the council.

On May 2, the opposition alliance submitted a constitutional document to the TMC related to the institutions and arrangements of the transitional period.

Later, differences emerged between the TMC and the alliance over the constitutional document.

The document stipulated that the joint sovereignty council be formed of 15 members, including eight civilians and seven military representatives.

It also demanded that the civilian government be formed of 17 ministers, provided that the declaration of state emergency be within the powers of the civilian government.

The document included formation of a transitional parliament of 120 members with a four-year transitional period.

The TMC, chaired by Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, is tasked with running the country's affairs following the ouster of former President Omar al-Bashir.
