BRUSSELS, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Iran has been fully compliant with all its nuclear related commitments under the nuclear deal, the European Union's top diplomat Federica Mogherini said on Thursday, one day after Iran said that it would suspend some promises it made under the deal.

Mogherini, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, made the remarks upon arrival to the EU's informal leaders' meeting in Sibiu, Romania, according to a transcript posted on the EU External Action Service official website.

"So far we have seen Iran fully compliant with all its nuclear related commitments under the nuclear deal," she said, "The IAEA will continue to monitor these nuclear related commitments' implementation and we will continue to see the compliance of Iran to its commitments to the JCPOA through the lenses of the assessments that the IAEA will continue to do. "

JCPOA, short for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, is the formal name of the Iran nuclear deal. It was reached in 2015 between Iran and the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council -- China, France, Russia, Britain and the United States -- plus Germany).

"We remain fully committed to the full implementation of the JCPOA, of the nuclear deal. It's a matter of security for us and for the entire world. The European Union investment in nonproliferation continues to be a top priority for us," said Mogherini.

The U.S., under President Donald Trump, withdrew from the deal and re-imposed sanctions on Iran, despite criticism by the international community including the United Nations.

On Wednesday, Iran announced that it would suspend some promises it made under the deal.

Earlier on Thursday, Mogherini and the foreign ministers of France, Germany and the United Kingdom issued a statement saying they strongly urge Iran to continue to implement its commitments under the nuclear deal and they reject any ultimatums.
