HOUSTON, March 13 (Xinhua) -- The United States is embracing "new American energy era" with the help of innovation and new technologies like artificial intelligence, U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry said Wednesday.

"We're approaching the dawn of what I called the new American energy era, an era of vastly improved energy choice for the entire world where we embrace new and smarter ways to reach our energy and our environmental goals," Perry told the 38th CERAWeek, an energy event organized by information provider IHS Markit.

Perry recalled that there used to be a pessimistic view of global energy which claimed that the days of energy abundance were over and that if new reserves found would be too costly to retrieve or would harm the environment.

"And now through this cascade of innovation, we're producing a wider range of fuels, more abundantly, more affordably," he said. "We're using them more cleanly, more efficiently than ever."

The United States now exports liquefied natural gas (LNG) to 34 countries on five continents, and American coal exports had their second best year ever last year, Perry said.

"It's thanks to innovation, we've got more than enough energy to share with the world," he said.

The 38th CERAWeek, which kicked off on Monday, gathers more than 4,500 guests and speakers in the energy, technology and financial sectors from over 70 countries and regions this year. The meeting also includes a special dialogue on China as well as the Asian energy market.
