HOUSTON, March 9 (Xinhua) -- China will continue to benefit by further implementing its reform and opening-up policy, an expert told Xinhua here in a recent interview.

Brian Lantz, representative of the Schiller Institute in Houston, said great economic achievements China has made in the past proved the success of the reform and opening-up policy.

"I think if China maintains a very thoughtful, independent approach and is operating from its own best interest it will work out in a good way," he said.

On U.S.-China relations, Lantz said "we're going to see continuing positive results in terms of U.S.-China relations and that will in part be a reflection of the success, continuing success of the reform and opening up process."

China and the United States have two different types of market economy, he said, but the difference doesn't prevent the two countries from cooperation.

Instead, the U.S.-China economic cooperation can help the rest of the world develop, he added.

"China and the United States together, cooperating with other nations can inspire and can provide the material to allow these countries to develop themselves," he said.

The Schiller Institute is an international political and economic think tank with headquarters in Germany and the United States.
