LONDON, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Although the most attractive tie of the fifth round of the FA Cup isn't until Monday night when Chelsea entertain Manchester United, the weekend games left plenty to talk about, although this time there were no major surprises.

League Two's (fourth tier) Newport County's brave giant killing run came to an end against a Manchester City side that was just too good for them.

18-year-old Phil Foden was vital in City's hard-fought win and coach Pep Guardiola took the time after the game to describe the teenager as brilliant and explain that only the depth of talent in his star-studded squad stopped the youngster playing more often.

Derby County's veteran left back Ashley Cole is 20-years older than Foden and has won the FA Cup seven times, but he won't be making it eight this season as his side lost 2-1 away to Brighton.

38-year-old Cole did at least score his side's consolation goal as they provided a late scare against a rival who led 2-0 at half time thanks to goals from Anthony Knockaert and Jurgen Locadia.

Brighton went into the game against rivals from a level below them with just one win from 11 in the Premier League, but held on for a morale boosting, albiet not entirely convincing win.

There was only one goal as Millwall won away to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday with Murray Wallace's fifth minute strike giving the Championship outfit their fourth quarterfinal appearance in the last 15 years and left coach Neil Harris happy about the financial windfall Cup success means to the club.

Wolves were another Premier League club to qualify for the last eight with a 1-0 win away to Bristol City, who are currently fifth in the Championship.

Wolves coach Nuno Espiritu Santo had rested key players in previous rounds, but with the chance of moving just a win away from an appearance at Wembley at stake, he fielded a full strength side and was rewarded by Ivan Cavaleiro's first half goal, which takes his side into the quarters for the first time since 2003.

The Wolves were under pressure in the second half, with Bristol City ending the game with 55 percent possession.

Watford are also into the hat with a 1-0 win away to QPR with Etienne Capoue scoring on the stroke of halftime to leave Javi Gracias 'Hornets' buzzing.

Crystal Palace also beat lower league opposition with first half goals from Jeffrey Schlupp and Max Meyer fast tracking their 2-0 win away to League One outfit Doncaster Rovers.

Finally, Swansea City went a goal down to Brentford in an all Championship clash, but an own goal and goals from Daniel James, Bersant Celina and George Byers saw them recover convincingly to also make it through to the last eight.
