UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese orchestra will perform at the UN General Assembly hall Friday evening to entertain diplomats and overseas Chinese in celebration of the Lunar New Year.

The performance marks the first time that the UN headquarters hears a symphony celebrating the most important holiday for the global Chinese community.

The orchestra, from the eastern Chinese city of Suzhou, has arrived in New York, its official WeChat account posted.

Chen Xieyang, the conductor, told the press that the performance would be a medley of Chinese and Western music as well as a fusion of classic and popular pieces.

World-renowned Chinese folk song Jasmine Flower and Western works are included in a repertoire obtained by Xinhua.

Traditional Chinese musical instruments will be featured in the performance.

Besides catering the audience with music, "we hope to introduce Suzhou to the world," Chen said.

Along with the symphony, iSuzhou, a digital platform by the city's publicity authorities, will put up an exhibition at the United Nations, which will feature the history, culture of Chinese Lunar New Year and the lifestyle in Suzhou.
