Myanmar, UNICEF to continue collaboration in immunization program

YANGON, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) will continue to collaborate in Myanmar's immunization program, Myanmar News Agency reported on Thursday.

Under an agreement signed recently between Myanmar's Ministry of Health and Sports and the UNICEF in Nay Pyi Taw on "The Vaccine Independence Initiative-7", UNICEF assured Myanmar of uninterrupted supply of vaccine and technical support for strengthening of cold chain system.

UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta H. Fore said the collaboration would effectively protect all children in Myanmar from vaccine preventable diseases, while Minister of Health and Sports Dr. Myint Htwe emphasized the importance and great benefit for children in Myanmar especially those living in remote and undeserved areas by preventing disease by immunization, calling for support of nutrition program as a top priority.

Meanwhile, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has funded Myanmar with 123 million U.S. dollars in immunization system strengthening for the year 2019 to 2021.
