KAMPALA, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Uganda and neighboring Rwanda enjoy cordial relations despite a social media uproar, a foreign affairs ministry spokesperson said here on Monday.

Ambassador Alfred Nnam, Uganda's ministry of foreign affairs spokesperson, told Xinhua by telephone that there is no reported tension, strained and deteriorating ties between Uganda and Rwanda as portrayed in social media reports.

"I don't know where social media is getting its information from. But as far as we are concerned as a country we have no issues with Rwanda," said Nnam.

"Our relations are good. So there is no need for a meeting because there is no issue about relations between Uganda and Rwanda," he said.

Social media has been awash with reports of tension and counter accusations between Kampala and Kigali authorities.

Kigali reportedly accuses its Kampala counterparts for arbitrarily arrests of its citizens and backing Rwandan dissidents seeking to overthrow President Paul Kagame while Uganda intensifies its crackdown on Rwandese on espionage missions.
