NAIROBI, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Kenya Sevens rugby head coach Paul Murunga is confident that his team will not be relegated from the World Series despite their loss of form.

With only four points from the first two stops in Dubai and Cape Town, the team is facing a tough battle to retain the core status in the elite 16-team competition.

Yet, coach Murunga who took over the rein last month, is adamant that Kenya will finish strong and may even challenge for the top four to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics automatically.

"There are absolutely no doubts about the team's capability and focus in the series. I'm confident we can make it to at least three cup quarterfinals this season. I think there is a lot of potential in the team. If we change the mind focus, build on our confidence and bring in some of our plays, we are likely to move up the table," he said.

Murunga said the team will return early from Christmas break and start a two-week training camp ahead of the third and fourth stops in the series in Hamilton, New Zealand and Sydney, Australia in the new year.

Kenya is in position 14 ahead of Japan and Zimbabwe and the last two teams will be relegated.

Kenya is set to head to Hamilton and Sydney in January before Vegas and Vancouver in March, Hong Kong and Singapore in April, Paris and London in June. Enditem
