NEW YORK, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly lower on Thursday with eight of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on a downbeat note.

Shares of BeiGene and Ctrip.com declined 5.12 percent and 2.19 percent, respectively, leading the laggards in the top 10 stocks of the index.

Shares of NetEase and TAL Education gained 3.94 percent and 1.73 percent respectively, the only two gainers in the top 10.

U.S. stocks closed mixed on Thursday as fears for economic slowdown continued.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 79.40 points, or 0.32 percent, to 24,947.67. The S&P 500 was down 4.11 points, or 0.15 percent, to 2,695.95. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 29.83 points, or 0.42 percent, to 7,188.26.

As of Tuesday, the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index stood at 2,494.66, marking a 1.51-percent decrease for the month-to-date returns and a 19.29-percent loss for the year-to-date returns.

Markets were closed Wednesday for the national day of mourning for former U.S. President George H.W. Bush.
