GAZA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- A Qatari diplomat arrived in the Gaza Strip on Thursday night to bring 15 million U.S. dollars for the monthly salaries of civil servants employed by Islamic Hamas movement, local media reported.

The Gaza local media outlets reported that Mohamed Ammadi, chairman of the Qatari Committee to reconstruct Gaza, arrived in the Gaza Strip through Erez crossing point on northern Gaza borders with Israel.

Sources in the Hamas-run ministry of finance said that the 15 million dollars had been deposited in the Hamas-run banks and post offices in order to pay the delayed salaries to the civil servants on Friday.

"Qatar is seeking to resolve the problems of the Gaza Strip populations permanently and continuously," Ammadi said last month, adding that his country's ties with the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the Palestinian factions "are excellent."

Qatar had pledged 150 million dollars to be paid for improving the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip within six months.

The money is devoted for resolving the shortage of electricity, paying the salaries of employees appointed by Hamas after 2007 and helping poor families.

However, the PA opposed the Qatari plans of pumping money in the Gaza Strip, believing that the Qatari money would boost Hamas rule in the coastal enclave and delay the efforts of ending the 12 years of internal Palestinian split.

"We observe this aid by ourselves and all the sectors of the Palestinian society are getting benefits from it," Ammadi said.
