DHAKA, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- An international exhibition on machinery, components, chemicals and accessories for leather, footwear and leather goods kicked off here on Thursday, aimed at bringing the latest technologies under one roof for the sector insiders.

Some 300 exhibitors from different countries including India, China and Pakistan have been participating in the three-day fair to showcase machinery for tanning leather, manufacturing footwear and leather goods along with components, dyes and chemicals, accessories and allied products.

Local event management company, ASK Trade & Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, organized the exposition in collaboration with Bangladesh leather industry insiders.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the fair as chief guest. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed among others were present at the inaugural ceremony.

Nanda Gopal, director of ASK Trade & Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, said though there are companies from many countries or regions in the fair, but actually a large majority of the participants come from China who have established business relations with customers in the capital of Dhaka and seaport city Chittagong, some 242 southeast of capital Dhaka.

Linda Lin, sales manager of Chinese Lishui Jiaxin Leather Company Limited, said she came to Bangladesh to attend the fair for the first time.

"Our company thinks Bangladesh is a big market. So we come here to get more orders. I think Bangladesh customers have warmly received us and they are very nice," she said.

Tiger Yang's Running Tiger (Bangladesh) Limited usually helps Bangladeshi shoe makers get new technology from China.

"We bring this new technology to Bangladesh. We see very good prospects for the Bangladeshi shoe factories," said Yang, managing director of Running Tiger.
