ISLAMABAD, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistani army said on Tuesday that security forces killed seven terrorists after they launched an attack on a post along the border with Afghanistan.

An army statement said that three terrorists were also injured in North Waziristan, a district in northwestern Pakistan bordering Afghanistan.

Terrorists from across the border fire raided Pakistani border post in North Waziristan. Fire was effectively responded by Pakistani border post. During exchange of fire seven terrorists were killed while three others were injured, a statement from the armys media wing Inter-Services Public Relations said.

The army did not say as to which group was involved in the attack.

Security officials said several groups of Pakistani Taliban operate from the Afghan sides of the border, which routinely launch attacks on Pakistani forces.

The military had conducted a major operation against the Pakistani Taliban and other militant groups, including foreigners in North Waziristan, in 2014.

Many militants were killed and some fled to neighboring Afghanistan, according to the military.

On Sept. 22, the Pakistani army said that at least seven soldiers, including an officer, were killed during an anti-terrorism operation in North Waziristan.

Nine terrorists were also killed in the clashes when the security forces launched an intelligence-based operation in Gharlamai and Spera Kunar Algad in North Waziristan.

A group of terrorists was reported to be have been infiltrated from across the Afghan border and were hiding in a compound, the army had stated.
