ALGIERS, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The South African youth rugby team on Saturday snatched the gold medal of the African Youth Games in Algeria, as they beat Namibia in the men's final match at the 5th July Stadium in upper Algiers.

South Africa's seven sailed past Mauritius in the semifinal 46-0, before easily grabbing the gold medal against Namibia 32-12.

Namibia's seven reached the final after winning in the semis against Burkina Faso 43-7.

The bronze medal returned to Mauritius, as they managed to win in the third place match against Burkina Faso 28-12.

Host country Algeria could not do better than taking the 5th place after a 10-5 win over Cote d'Ivoire.

Senegal managed to grab the 7th place after a hard win against Morocco (24-7), while Tunisia ended the tournament in the 9th spot with a stunning win of 49-0 against Benin.

The 3rd African Youth Games on Wednesday kicked off in the Algerian capital of Algiers, as some 3300 athletes from 54 African countries and regions compete in 30 sport specialties until July 28th.

The games are also qualifiers for the Youth Olympic Games which Argentina is due to host in the forthcoming October.

The first African Youth Games were held in 2010 in the Moroccan capital of Rabat, while the second edition was hosted by Botswana's Gaborone in 2014.
