NAIROBI, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's Alex Korio will take no prisoners in his World 10km title defense in Bangalore, India on May 27.

Korio, 27, is one of five runners in the elite men's field who have run under 28 minutes along with course record-holder and reigning world half marathon champion Geoffrey Kamworor (27:44).

Other competitors are Ethiopians Birhanu Legese (27:34), Mosinet Geremew (27:36) and Bahrain's Abraham Cheroben (27:35). Approximately 27,000 runners will take to the roads for five different races.

The Kenyan was unable to finish the World Half Marathon race in Valencia, which was won by Kamworor. "I had an injury and was forced to pull out of the Valencia race. But it has since healed and I returned to training. Now I feel stronger and faster and I will be putting everything into this race in Bangalore to make sure victory is mine," Korio said in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Korio, who also won this race in 2013, had a superb year in 2017. In addition to winning in impressive fashion in Bangalore when beating a world class field by 14 seconds last May, he reduced his half marathon time to 58:51 in Copenhagen later in the year.

"I had many expectations in Valencia but it was not my day. Now I have another rematch with Kamworor and other top runners and I hope to win," he added.
