LOS ANGELES, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Paramount's horror thriller "A Quiet Place" reclaimed the top spot of North American box office with an estimated 22 million U.S. dollars, defeating New Line Cinema and Warner Bros.' science fiction monster film "Rampage" in a close race.

"A Quiet Place" has brought in 132.35 million dollars after 17 days in North American theaters, pushing its global cume to 207.16 million dollars to date, according to studio figures collected by comScore.

"A Quiet Place" was directed by John Krasinski, who stars with his wife, Emily Blunt. The plot of the film follows a family who must live life in silence while hiding from creatures that hunt by sound.

Second place goes to Dwayne Johnson's "Rampage" with an estimated 21 million dollars. The film has earned 66.6 million dollars in North American theaters and a massive total of 283 million dollars worldwide.

Directed by Brad Peyton, the film stars Dwayne Johnson, Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Jake Lacy, Joe Manganiello, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The plot follows a primatologist named Davis Okoye who must team up with George, an extraordinarily intelligent gorilla who turns into a raging creature of enormous size following a rogue experiment, in order to stop an invasion of monsters.

STX's comedy film "I Feel Pretty" opened in third place with an estimated 16.22 million dollars. Written and directed by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, in their directional debuts, the film follows an insecure woman who believes that she is the most beautiful and capable woman in the world after suffering a head injury from a fall.

Another new comer, Fox Searchlight Pictures' comedy film "Super Troopers 2" opened in fourth place with an estimated 14.7 million dollars. Universal and Blumhouse's supernatural horror film "Truth or Dare" finished fifth with an estimated 7.91 million dollars in its second weekend.
