LOS ANGELES, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, now under construction in Los Angeles, announced to appoint Chinese American banker Dominic Ng as member of its board of trustees.

According to a press release sent to Xinhua Wednesday, Ron Meyer, head of the Academy Museum's Board of Trustees and NBC Universal's Vice Chairman said Ng's participation would "add wisdom and strength to our leadership" as the museum, an important project of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, enter the final phase of construction.

Besides Ng, the Chairman and CEO of East West Bank, Emma Thomas, a renowned film producer who has worked on films such as Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception and The Dark Knight, accepted the appointment at the same time.

Ng, who was named by the Los Angeles Times as one of the 100 most influential people in the city, said he was glad to join the board since his bank is not only building financial bridges between the United States and China, but also building cultural exchange bridges between the two countries.

The East West Bank has provided billions of dollars of financial supports for films produced in the United States and China, Ng said, adding that he would like to do more jobs to create co-production films between the two countries, enhancing cultural exchange and boosting entertainment industry.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, a Streamline Modern landmarked building designed by Pritzker-prize winning Renzo Piano, is scheduled to open in mid-2019 and provide an immersive experience for visitors to explore the cultural and creative contributions that Hollywood and the film industry have made around the world.

The museum will draw from the unparalleled collection of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which includes more than 12 million photographs, 190,000 film and video assets, 80,000 screenplays, 61,000 posters, 20,000 production and costume design drawings, and 104,000 pieces of production art.

Meyer said the museum will be the nation's first, large-scale museum entirely dedicated to the art, science, craft, business, and history of movies.
