NAIROBI, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's women rugby Sevens head coach Kevin Wambua said Friday his team has learned a lot despite missing a slot as one of the 12 core teams in the World Series.

China beat South Africa in the final to secure promotion to the 2019 World Series with Kenya finishing third ahead of Belgium.

But Wambua believes Kenya has narrowed the gap and will be crashing the glass ceiling soon to secure their place among the best.

Wambua told Xinhua, "The game against South Africa didn't go our way. We were under pressure. Overall, the team's performance was superb, though we didn't win."

China will now feature as one of the 12 core teams on the World Series, taking in events such as Dubai, Sydney and Paris.

However, before joining the series they will contest the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco on July 20-22 as one of the 16 women's teams where they will meet Kenya and South Africa among other top teams.

Meanwhile, Wambua said he would shift his focus to the crucial Commonwealth Games, next weekend in Gold Coast, Australia.

Kenya has been pooled against giants New Zealand, Canada and South Africa in Pool A.
