ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Emmanuel Nnadozie, Executive Secretary of the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), on Friday called on African leaders to be at the forefront of the fight against corruption.

Speaking to journalists at the 30th AU Summit being held in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, the ACBF Executive Secretary also said that African leaders can show strong leadership prioritizing the fight against corruption.

The 30th AU summit kicked off Monday at the headquarters of the pan-African bloc under the theme "Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa's Transformation." The biannual summit will last until next Monday.

"The advice that we would be giving to the African member states of the AU and ACBF is that they should make sure they prioritize the fight against corruption among many other things," Nnadozie said.

To that end, he emphasized that the fight against corruption is not just about the enforcement and making sure the justice system implements laws, it is also about changing mindsets through various mechanisms. Leadership and setting example are also extremely important, he added.

Established in 1991, ACBF builds human and institutional capacity for good governance and economic development in Africa. The foundation operates in more than 45 African countries and six regional economic communities.

ACBF supports capacity development through investments, technical support, knowledge generation and sharing across Africa.
