CHILECITO, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Dutchman Bernhard Ten Brinke secured the second Dakar Rally stage victory of his career on Wednesday as Spain's Carlos Sainz extended his overall lead in the off-road endurance race.

Toyota's Ten Brinke finished the 281km timed section of the Belen-Chilecito course in Argentina in four hours 10 minutes and 54 seconds.

He was more than four and-a-half minutes ahead of France's Cyril Despres, whose Peugeot teammate Sainz was third, just five seconds further back.

Ten Brinke's only other stage victory came in the 2016 edition, when he won on the first day.

Sainz stretched his overall lead to just over an hour, with France's defending champion Stephane Peterhansel second in his Peugeot and Toyota's Qatari driver Nasser Al-Attiyah third, a further 24 minutes in arrears.

In the motorcycle category, Australian Toby Price rose to third in the overall standings by winning Wednesday's stage, a minute and 38 seconds faster than Honda's Argentine rider Kevin Benavides.

Price's KTM teammate Antoine Meo was third, almost three hours behind Price.

China's Daming Racing Team rider Zhao Hongyi completed the stage two hours and 55 minutes behind he leaders and is 74th overall.
