SEOUL, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's imported car sale logged a double-digit growth last month due to strong demand for U.S. electric vehicles and German luxury models, industry data showed Wednesday.

The number of imported vehicles sold here jumped 22.6 percent from a year earlier to 27,304 in August, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association.

For the first eight months of this year, 192,514 foreign vehicles were sold here, up 13.3 percent compared with the same period of last year.

U.S. automaker Tesla ranked first in terms of automotive sales here among foreign companies by selling 7,974 units last month.

German automaker BMW came next with the sale of 6,458 units, followed by German carmaker Mercedes-Benz with 4,332 units, Volvo with 1,313 units, Audi with 1,263 units and Lexus with 1,249 units. ■
