ZAGREB, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Croatia has seen a cold and rainy May, which according to some weathermen might be the coldest May in the last 30 years.

According to local media reports, the total amount of rainfall in the country was two or even three times bigger than usual. In Zagreb, Croatia's capital, there were 21 rainy days this month.

Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) confirmed to Xinhua on Thursday that temperature in May has been below the average of the period 1960-1991. The total amount of rainfalls in Zagreb, they said, has been above the average of the period 1961-2000. Still, they have to collect and process all weather-data from Croatia to call it the coldest May in recent history.

Local news reports that farmers here have suffered great damage because of the rainy month. Strawberry and cherry farmers are complaining about the failed harvest. In mid-May, stormy weather hit the capital Zagreb and other parts of Croatia, when the wind ripped off rooftops and fell trees on cars.

Abnormal weather could even have an effect on tourism, especially if it doesn't change in June. Although pre-season tourism in the country is on the rise compared to 2018, bad weather could drive away tourists who came to the southeastern European country.
