Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi (R) welcomes Russian President Vladimir Putin prior to their meeting at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on October 5, 2018.

MOSCOW, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the victory of his party in the general elections, the Kremlin said Thursday.

"I am convinced that as the Prime Minister of India, you will further strengthen the centuries-old friendship between our peoples and the all-round development of a particularly privileged strategic partnership between Russia and India," Putin wrote in the message.

Putin confirmed his readiness to continue personal contact with Modi and work together to build up bilateral relations and interactions in international affairs.

Modi announced on Thursday that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has won a majority of seats in the lower house of the parliament, which has more than 540 members.
