HOUSTON, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese consulate general in Houston, Texas of the United States, on Tuesday urged Chinese tourism agencies to obey the law to secure travel safety, including providing safety training and tips for licensed drivers.

The consulate general said that Chinese tourists, enterprises and students should pay attention to travel safety for summer vacation in the southern U.S. region.

On July 9, the consulate general issued a travel alert aimed at improving risk prevention and safety awareness among Chinese tourists for summer vacations.

The consulate general on Tuesday reiterated the safety issues of waterborne events, as well as other high-risk activities.

Almost two weeks ago, two boats overturned in rough seas off the coast of Phuket island, Thailand, leaving 42 dead and 14 missing.

There were more than 130 tourists and crew on board, among whom 127 were Chinese tourists. Local authorities confirmed that all the dead and missing passengers were Chinese.
