HOUSTON, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Houston Community College (HCC) said Friday that it will cooperate with Chinese government partners to establish a training program to certify nurses from China.

HCC Chancellor Cesar Maldonado said in an interview with Xinhua that the cooperation is expected to begin by training Chinese nurses in a Chinese province and certifying them with associate degree in nursing.

"Our partnership will be looking at moving Chinese students to our system, and then they will go back to China to develop their own community college system or nurse training programs there," he said.

After the students go back to China, HCC will continue to share the curriculum with them and offer consulting advice in program development, the chancellor added.

Maldonado first visited China in 1993 on a business trip. Joining the Houston Trade and Investment Mission, he visited China again last December to meet with high-level government officials, business leaders and industry counterparts to explore opportunities for trade and professional partnerships.
