KIEV, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- The United States and the European Union (EU) were the biggest financial contributors to the Ukrainian economy last year, local media reported Wednesday, citing an official report.

According to the report released by Ukraine's Economic Development and Trade Ministry, Ukraine received 370 million U.S. dollars in aid from the United States and 310 million dollars from the EU in 2017, which accounted for 73 percent of the total aid from its international partners.

Most of the funds went to projects in nuclear safety, civil society, security and defense, and regional development.

The central bank of Ukraine has estimated that the country's gross domestic product (GDP) grew 2.1 percent in 2017.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said Tuesday that the country has the potential to achieve an annual GDP growth of 5 percent in the coming years.
